
Goleta, CA.- A person was killed in a solo crash into a tree near Goleta early Thursday morning, according to the authorities.
At around 3:48 a.m., firefighters responded to reports of a crash on Highway 101, just south of Dos Pueblos Canyon Road.
An SUV traveling on southbound Highway 101 left the roadway and slammed into a eucalyptus tree on the side of the highway. The vehicle sustained major damage.
The Santa Barbara County Fire Department crews responded to the incident and found the single occupant of the vehicle deceased at the scene. The identity of the deceased driver was not immediately released.
At least one southbound lane was temporarily shut down for nearly five hours following the accident. The cause of the wreck is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
