Genesis Martinez Dies in Walnut Creek Accident on Interstate 680

Contra Costa County, California (February 22, 2023) – The man who died when a Tesla collided with a fire engine in Walnut Creek in Contra Costa County early Saturday morning has been identified as Genesis Mendoza Martinez, 31, of Pittsburg, according to the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office.

The wreck happened on Interstate 680 just south of the Treat Boulevard on-ramp on Saturday, February 18.

Authorities said a Tesla Model S traveling northbound on I-680 crashed into the rear of a Contra Costa County Fire truck that was enroute to another crash scene.

The driver of the Tesla, identified as Martinez, was killed in the incident.

A passenger in the Tesla was extricated and transported to a hospital with major injuries.

The authorities are working to determine the cause of the collision.
