<strong>Faila Butunga Dies in Multi Vehicle Collision in Phoenix<strong>

Phoenix, Arizona (January 3, 2023) – Phoenix police said 72-year-old Faila Butunga died, and two children were seriously injured in a multi-vehicle collision that happened on New Year’s Day in Phoenix.

The three victims were involved in the crash at around 3:40 p.m. near 51st Avenue and Indian School Road.

According to police, a man was driving a vehicle southbound on 51st Avenue with Butunga and two children as his passengers. The car drifted into the northbound lane and hit another vehicle driven by a teenage boy.

A third vehicle driven by a woman then struck the teen’s car before it came to a stop.

First responders found Butunga with life-threatening injuries. The patient was rushed to the hospital, where she died of her injuries.

The two children were also hospitalized with serious injuries.

Police evaluated all the drivers for DUI, but none showed signs of intoxication. Weather is, however, believed to be a factor in the collision.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
