Hemet, CA – A woman was killed and one other person was hospitalized following a three-vehicle collision in Hemet Monday morning.
The deadly collision happened at about 6:03 p.m. in the 28000 block of Warren Road near Poplar Street.
According to a preliminary investigation, a silver Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck was northbound on Warren Road at Poplar Street when, for some reason, the truck drifted into the southbound lanes and sideswiped a blue Chevrolet Cruze subcompact car, going southbound on Warren Road, the Hemet Police Department said.
The impact caused the driver of the Cruze to lose control of the car, which slid sideways into the northbound lanes, where it was hit on the passenger side by a silver Toyota Tundra pickup truck traveling northbound.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene and located an unresponsive female driver upon arrival. The woman was given medical aid, but despite the life-saving measures, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner identified the woman as Esther Elizalde, a 54-year-old resident of San Jacinto, CA.
Another person was transported to University Health System Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
According to HPD, the third driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigators. It was not clear if the third driver was injured.
Hemet police said Warren Road was shut down between Simpson Road and Mustang Way for about five hours during the investigation.
The crash remains under investigation.
