Erica Lopez Hurt in Placentia Car Crash at Orangethorpe Avenue and Melrose Street

Placentia, California (February 4, 2023) – Erica Lopez, an 8-month pregnant woman, was injured in a deadly collision in Placentia on the evening of January 25, according to the authorities.

Three people died in the incident that took place at around 8:45 p.m. at Orangethorpe Avenue and Melrose Street.

Authorities said Mario Armando Paz J., 24, ran a red light at the intersection and collided with a passenger van carrying several people.

Erica Lopez was among the passengers in the van. She was hospitalized with minor injuries.

Her husband, 10-year-old daughter, and a 65-year-old passenger in the van, were killed.

Erica’s 8-year-old son sustained minor injuries while her sister-in-law, Maura Vicente, was  hospitalized with major injuries and is reportedly in a coma.

Authorities said Paz is facing multiple charges as he was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
