Dorothy Cousins Dies in Castroville Crash on Highway 1

Castroville, California (May 24, 2023) – Dorothy Cousins, 79, of Soquel, was killed in a collision Tuesday afternoon in Castroville, according to a report by the CHP.
The incident took place on Highway 1 near Highway 183 at around 12:40 p.m. May 23.
According to the report, a GMC Sierra traveling northbound on the highway swerved into the opposing side and collided with a southbound Mazda driven by Cousins.
The accident killed Cousins and one of her passengers, identified as James Hendrickson, 76, of Dandridge, Tennessee.
The driver of the GMC, David Randall Hart, 69, of Castroville, was hospitalized with major injuries.
A second passenger in the Mazda, a 73-year-old Tennessee woman, was transported with major injuries.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
