Sheriff’s Deputy Killed in Collision at Esplanade Avenue and State Street in San Jacinto ID’d

San Jacinto, California (May 14, 2023) – The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office deputy who died in a violent car crash in San Jacinto early Friday morning has been identified.
At around 2:15 a.m., the California Highway Patrol and the Riverside Fire Department received reports of a violent car crash at the intersection of Esplanade Avenue and State Street.
Deputy Brett Harris, who was assigned to the Hemet Sheriff’s Station, was responding to a duty call when he was involved in a collision with another car at the intersection.
Harris, 26, sustained major injuries including a catastrophic brain injury. Sadly, he died at the scene.

The 56-year-old Hemet woman who was driving the second car was hospitalized with moderate injuries.
A second deputy suffered minor injuries while rendering aid at the scene.
Additional information about the accident was not provided.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
