California Drug Injury Attorney
Have you been the victim of a defective drug?
Although the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) works to regulate consumer products, including over-the-counter drugs and prescription medicines, dangerous or defective drugs are frequently distributed throughout the United States. If you or a loved one has been injured by a defective drug, it is important that you consider contacting a drug injury lawyer as soon as possible.
If your injuries were caused because the drug was improperly tested or was wrongly prescribed to you, you may be entitled to financial compensation for your losses. Pacific Attorney Group can meet with you during a free initial consultation to talk about what side effects you or a loved one experienced and how these may relate to a defective drug. Our legal team has over 35 years of legal experience to apply to your case, as well as the resources needed to conduct a full investigation into the incident.
We handle all types of drug injury claims, including those cases involving:
The prescription drug of Accutane (generic name Isotretinoin) is prescribed to help with severe recalcitrant nodular acne. While it has been proven to help with troubled skin, it is not without a price as the drug has been shown to cause severe birth defects, blindness, deafness, Chron’s disease and more.
Approved by the FDA in 1999, Actos (generic name pioglitazone hydrochloride) was released by Takeda Chemical Industries to help those suffering from typae 2 diabetes. Since then, studies have linked the taking of Actos with swelling, weight gain and, more seriously, the increased risk of bladder cancer.
Avandia (generic name Rosiglitazone) was released by GlaxoSmithKline to help with type 2 diabetes. Since then, the drug has become controversial, being linked to severe cardiovascular disorders. One study reported than over 47,000 have suffered heart attack, heart failure, stroke and death due to the taking of this drug.
Released by Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Byetta (generic name exenatide) is an injection that is used to help with type 2 diabetes by helping the body to increase production of natural insulin. It, however, has been linked to serious side effects ranging from nausea to GERD, kidney problems and even pancreatitis.
Fentanyl Pain Patch
As a more intensive form of pain management, the usage of Fentanyl pain patches have come under serious scrutiny over the past few years. It is reported that Fentanyl is over 80 times stronger than morphine, but it is not without its dangers. It is easy to overdose on Fentanyl, leading to a voluntary recall by the manufacturer.
Phospho Soda, released by C.B. Fleet Company, has been linked to severe Acute Phosphate Nephropathy. According to the FDA, the laxative was found to lead to “acute kidney injury” and causing symptoms such as high blood pressure, abnormal heartbeat and even failure of the kidneys altogether.
As a group of antibiotics used to treat respiratory and urinary tract infections, fluoroquinolones have been linked to serious side effects, such as tendon damage. Ruptured tendons have resulted from the taking of the drug, resulting in the need for surgery or life-long disabilities.
Manufactured by Merck & Co., Fosamax (generic name Alendronate Sodium), is used to help treat the symptoms of osteoporosis, namely in elderly women. Since its release, the drug has been linked to several adverse side effects, primarily muscle pain and heart burn, leading to a class action lawsuit in 2006.
Used in MRI and MRA procedures, the chemical element of gadolinium has been shown to have serious and even fatal side effects, such as kidney disease, shortness of breath, hives and blood clots. The main two problems, however, are severe allergic reaction, as well as nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF).
The prescription medication of Provigil (generic name Modafinil), was manufactured by Cephalon Inc. to assist in wakefulness with adults struggling with excessive sleepiness of any kind. Side effects associated with the drug include erythema multiform (EM), DRESS, Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS) and more.
Manufactured by Genentech, the prescription drug of Raptiva was recalled in 2009 due to an increased risk of Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy (PML). This disorder is severe and can cause symptoms such as headaches, difficulty with memory, blindness, lack of coordination and general weakness in the limbs.
Used to help treat the symptoms of heartburn, Reglan (generic name Metoclopramide) was released by Schwartz Pharma in the U.S. in the form of injections. The drug, however, was later linked to serious side effects, such as depression, confusion, as well as Tardive Dyskinesia and Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome.
Manufactured by Bayer AG, Trasylol (generic name aprotinin) was used to help prevent blood loss during transfusions. Despite usage worldwide, the drug has been shown to cause life-threatening side effects, such as kidney failure, heart attacks and stroke, especially when used during surgery and has been recalled.
One of the most popular forms of birth control, YAZ or Yasmin (generic name Ocella), manufactured by Bayer, has come under serious scrutiny over the last few years. This is due to the severe side effects that have been attributed to the drug, including pulmonary embolism (PE) and deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
