Sacramento, CA. – A bicyclist was hospitalized after fleeing a police stop early Friday morning and colliding with a car at an intersection in Sacramento.
The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. at 24th Street and Fruitridge Road.
According to the Sacramento Police Department, police officers attempted to stop a man riding a bicycle in the area for a traffic violation, but the cyclist refused to stop and pedaled into the intersection against a red light.
The rider collided with a vehicle at the intersection.
The bicyclist immediately fled the scene on foot but was detained a short distance away.
The man was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators determined that the suspect was on active parole, had multiple outstanding warrants, and was in possession of narcotics at the time of the crash.
The man was booked into jail after being medically cleared.
