Six People Were Injured in Highway 101 Collision near Carrillo Street in Santa Barbara early Tuesday

Santa Barbara, California (September 12, 2023) – According to the Santa Barabara City Fire Department, six people were hospitalized, one with serious injuries, following a three-vehicle crash on Highway 101 in Santa Barbara early Tuesday morning.

The multi-vehicle collision happened in the southbound lanes of Highway 101, just south of Carrillo Street off-ramp.

According to the fire department report, two people required extrication from the wreckage. Six people were injured in the crash and were taken by three AMR ambulances to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. One of the patients suffered serious injuries in the incident.

Authorities say that one of the vehicles ripped out a large section of the guardrail along the incident. All lanes of the highway, except one, were shut down as crews tended to the patients and cleared the roadway.

The crash remains under investigation.
