12 Injured in Riverside County Crash on 10 Freeway near Malki Road

Riverside County, California (June 3, 2022) – Twelve people were injured in a collision involving a Greyhound bus that occurred in Banning in Riverside County on Friday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The incident took place at around 11 a.m. on the 10 Freeway near Malki Road.

According to the CHP, a Greyhound bus was heading east on the freeway when one of its front tires popped.

This caused the bus to drift to the left, and it collided with a Mitsubishi Outlander and the center divider.

The bus was traveling to Phoenix from Los Angeles when the accident happened.

Twelve parties were injured in the collision, and one of them had major injuries.

The bus was carrying 33 people at the time of the accident and those who were not hurt were taken to the Morongo Tribal Hall at 11555 Potrero Road in Cabazon.

It’s unclear whether the occupants of the Mitsubishi were among those injured.

An investigation into the collision is ongoing.

“Click it or Ticket” Seat Belt Safety Campaign to Run Through Memorial Day

Banning, California – As the Memorial Day nears, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Banning Station,  reminds everyone taking a trip over the Memorial Weekend to always wear their seat belts and keep children in child safety seats.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, this year’s Click or Ticket Campaign will run through the Memorial Day. The campaign will begin on May 23 to June 5. During this time, according to the Sheriff’s department, more officers will be patrol looking for drivers and passengers with no seat belts, as well as vehicles where children are not in secured child safety seats.

According to Deputy Ray Cortez of Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, wearing a seat belt should be automatic for all drivers and passengers. “It is the safest thing to do, especially when it comes to securing children in child safety seats’, Deputy Ray Said.

In 2020, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 10,893 people who were not wearing safety belts died in traffic collisions. California accounted for 20 percent of the traffic deaths. This translates to 756 fatalities.

The State of California has a primary safety belt law allowing the police to ticket anyone not wearing a seat belt without committing any other traffic violation.
