Lassen County, California (March 14, 2023) – Banjindher Singh, 35, of Elk Grove, was seriously injured in a collision involving two big rigs in Lassen County Monday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The wreck took place at around 5:35 a.m. on March 13, on Highway 44.

According to the report, Baljit Sindhu, 59, of Elk Grove, was driving a 2020 Freightliner transporting a load of paint westbound on Highway 44 when the rig entered an icy curve at Poison Lake, jackknifed, and slammed into a snow embankment.

Shortly after, the stalled rig was hit by an approaching 2021 Peterbilt.

Singh was a passenger in Sindhu’s rig.

Authoritiessaid Singh sustained major injuries while Sindhu complained of pain.

Medics transported both patients and the other driver, who had minor injuries, to the Banner Lassen Medical Center.

The crash caused the closure of the westbound lanes of Highway 44 as authorities worked to clear the scene.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
