San Bernardino County, where the city of Adelanto is located experiences thousands of traffic accidents annually, and recently recorded approximately 14,615 people either injured or killed in vehicle collisions in 2024. This figure represents a slight decline of around 3% from the previous year in terms of the absolute number of victims, and a 1% decline over a 10-year period. The county faces a significant challenge with fatal crashes, holding one of the highest population-adjusted fatality rates in Southern California, nearly double the rate of larger neighboring counties like Los Angeles and San Diego. Key factors contributing to collisions include unsafe speed, which accounts for a substantial percentage of crashes, particularly in urban areas and on major highways. Interstates 10 and 215 are specifically noted as accident hotspots due to heavy traffic flow, high speeds, and complex interchanges. In 2021 data, the county had the second-highest number of speeding-related fatalities among all California counties.
