Nicholas Cardoza Killed in Rollover Crash on Highway 140 in Lakeview

Lake County, OR – One person was killed following a crash involving two vehicles on Highway 140 in Lake County on Tuesday, according to the Oregon State Police.

The OSP identified the deceased driver as Nicholas Cardoza, 61, of Lakeview.

According to OSP, the deadly crash happened on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at approximately 3:49 p.m. on Highway 140 near milepost 1 near Lakeview.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Daniel Klinkert, 48, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, was driving a white Mercedes Sprinter westbound on Highway 140 near milepost 1 when he entered the intersection with a southbound red Kenworth commercial motor vehicle towing double trailers, operated by Nicholas Cardoza, 61, of Lakeview. Cardoza swerved to avoid a collision with the van, causing the Kenworth to leave the roadway and overturn.

Cardoza was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Klinkers was not injured.

The highway shut down for six hours as investigators worked at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
