Bakersfield, CA – A 57-year-old man was killed and another 39-year-old man injured in a head-on collision at intersection in Bakersfield Friday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident was reported at the intersection of Weedpatch Highway and Wilson Road around 10:05 p.m.
A preliminary investigation determined a 57-year-old man was driving southbound Ford when he veered into the northbound lane for an unknown reason and collided head-on with a northbound Toyota driven by a 39-year-old man.
The driver of the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Toyota had minor injuries and was transported to Kern Medical for treatment.
The name of the man killed was not immediately disclosed.
The Weedpatch Highway was shut down in both directions from Muller Road to Redbank Road.
It remains unclear whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
The accident remains under investigation.
