37-year-old Levi Lopez from Nipomo died, and 36-year-old Genaro Cortez Beltran of Bakersfield was arrested following the collision.
Nipomo, CA. – Authorities identified the victim and suspect of a Nipomo motorcycle accident that happened Tuesday afternoon at Hutton Road and Joshua Street.
37-year-old Levi Lopez from Nipomo died, and 36-year-old Genaro Cortez Beltran of Bakersfield was arrested following the collision.
The incident occurred around 4:15 p.m.
The California Highway Patrol said Beltran was driving a Nissan pickup truck southbound on Hutton Road when he made a U-turn directly in front of Lopez, who was riding a Harley-Davidson northbound.
Lopez's motorcycle crashed into the passenger side of the truck.
Lopez, who was wearing safety gear, suffered fatal injuries.
Beltran attempted to flee after the crash but was apprehended by an off-duty CHP officer who was in the area.
Investigators said impairment was not a contributing factor.

Nipomo, CA. – One person was killed in a motorcycle accident on Tuesday afternoon in Nipomo.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 4:15 p.m. in the area of Hutton Road and Joshua Street.
A Nissan pickup truck was traveling south on Hutton Road when the driver made a U-turn directly in front of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle that was traveling northbound.
The motorcyclist crashed into the passenger side of the pickup truck.
The rider was ejected from the bike and was pronounced dead at the accident scene.
The name of the deceased person was not immediately disclosed.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
