Child Injured in Santa Barbara Accident at Anacapa Street and East Ortega Street
Santa Barbara, California (August 10, 2021) – A bicyclist was hospitalized after being struck by an alleged hit-and-run DUI driver Saturday night in Santa Barbara.
The bicycle crash took place near Anacapa Street and East Ortega Street at about 6:00 p.m.
A maroon pick-up truck operated by 23-year-old Miguel Angel Gonzalez south in the 600 block of Anacapa Street reportedly slammed into the back of a bicycle ridden by 14-year-old juvenile south on Anacapa Street.
Due to the impact, the bicyclist was ejected from the bike, trapped under the pick-up truck, and dragged about 20 feet.
Santa Barbara DUI Bicycle Accident
The cyclist sustained moderate injuries in the accident and was rushed to the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for medication.
Miguel Gonzalez, a Santa Barbara resident, did not stop to render aid and fled the scene.
Officers found Gonzalez sleeping in the garage of a residence on East Ortega after locating the suspect vehicle near East De La Guerra and Alisos Street.
Gonzalez, who was determined to have been driving under the influence of alcohol, was arrested and booked into Santa Barbara County Jail, where his bail is set at $100,000.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
