Sacramento, California (August 23, 2021) – One of the two Galt Police Department officers critically injured in a deadly crash in south Sacramento early Sunday morning was identified by the authorities as Officer Kapri Herrera. 

At around 4:35 a.m. August 22, the California Highway Patrol said Manjot Singh Thind, 25, of Manteca was heading south on Highway 99 in a Dodge Ram pickup when, for unknown reasons, he slammed through the center divider.

The Dodge ended up on the northbound side and it collided with an oncoming Galt police patrol vehicle near Dillard Road.

Officer Herrera and the other officer, Harminder Grewal, were heading to the Caldor Fire when the wreck happened. They both sustained critical injuries and were transported to a local hospital.

Thind died at the scene of the collision. 

The two passengers in the Dodge, identified as a 26-year-old from Dublin and a 26-year-old from Turlock, suffered moderate injuries and were both transported to hospital.

The CHP is investigating the incident.
