, CA. – A motorcyclist died in a high-speed police pursuit that happened Friday evening in Southwest Bakersfield, authorities said.

California Highway Patrol officers attempted a traffic stop on a motorcyclist, but the rider sped away westbound at a high rate of speed, prompting a chase.

Authorities said the chase ended when the rider sideswiped a car on Berkshire Road as it turned onto Perla Way.

The rider was thrown from the bike into a block wall and died.

The driver of the car was not hurt.

Berkshire Road was closed from 7:30 p.m. until early Saturday morning during the investigation.
