Monica Villareal identified as Coachella woman killed in a car accident and Portola Avenue and Fred Waring Drive in Palm Desert

Palm Desert, CA – 51-year-old Monica Villareal, of Coachella, has been identified by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office as the woman who died in a car accident on Wednesday night in Palm Desert.
The fatal crash happened at the intersection of Portola Avenue and Fred Waring Drive at around 9:46 p.m., according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Villareal was driving a Nissan Sentra when she allegedly ran a red light at the intersection and collided with a Dodge van.
Villareal, a resident of Coachella, was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center where she died while receiving treatment.
The driver of the second vehicle was unhurt.
More details about the accident were not released.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
