Sacramento, California (August 23, 2021) – The man who was killed in a crash involving Galt Police Department officers Sunday morning in south Sacramento has been identified as Manjot Singh Thind, 25, of Manteca, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

The collision occurred at around 4:35 a.m. August 22, on Highway 99 near Dillard Road.

The California Highway Patrol said a Dodge Ram pickup truck traveling south on Highway 99 crashed through the center divider into the northbound side, where it collided head-on with an oncoming Galt police patrol vehicle that was heading to the Caldor Fire.

Thind, who was the driver of the pickup truck, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers in his vehicle, identified as a 26-year-old from Dublin and a 26-year-old from Turlock, were both hospitalized with moderate injuries.

The two officers were extricated by emergency responders and taken to a hospital. One of them was in critical condition while the second officer was in stable condition.

It is unclear whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident.

Both lanes of Highway 99 were closed following the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
