Man Killed Two-Vehicle Crash in Tulare County

Tulare County, California (November 1, 2023) –  One person is dead after two vehicles collided at a junction in Tulare County Tuesday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The high-speed collision happened at about 6:59 p.m. at Highway 216 and Beechwood Boulevard.

According to CHP’s information page, a gray Toyota 4Runner and a black Ford F-250 pickup truck were involved in the crash.

Authorities say a 30-year-old man was driving the Ford southbound on 216 at a high rate of speed with headlights off. At the same time, the driver of the Toyota was northbound on the highway and turned west onto Beechwood Avenue. The Toyota driver did not see the Ford and the two vehicles collided at the intersection.

The impact caused the Ford to overturn multiple times and the driver was ejected. The 30-year-old man was rushed to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. His name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

A one-year-old baby was inside the Ford at the time of the crash. Police say the baby was properly secured in a child’s safety seat. The baby sustained minor injuries in the incident.

Two tow trucks were requested to the scene for the vehicles.

Rollover car accidents can be caused by various factors, including excessive speed, driver impairment, driver negligence, tripping, vehicle design or defects, among others. Rollover collisions can cause major injuries or fatalities, and the occupants of the overturned car could get trapped in the wreckage hence making rescue operations difficult.

When a rollover car crash happens, investigators must look keenly into the circumstances of the accident to determine who is to be held responsible. The investigators examine whether there is evidence of drivers’ negligent actions such as intoxication, speeding, or failure to follow traffic laws. They also examine the condition of the roads, improper signage, and whether third parties, such as construction companies and maintenance crews, could be held responsible.
