San Diego County, CA. – A La Mirada man died, and a Mission Viejo man was seriously hurt in a motorcycle collision that happened Sunday morning in Wynola.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident was reported around 10:30 a.m. on Springview Road.
Authorities said a group of motorcyclists was riding eastbound through the Wynola area when one of them, a 66-year-old La Mirada man, on a 2020 Harley-Davidson Low Rider veered into a westbound lane and sideswiped an oncoming 2024 Chevrolet Silverado towing a trailer.
The motorcycle and the rider went down, and the motorcyclist came to rest underneath the bike.
A 55-year-old Mission Viejo man riding with the group of motorcyclists swerved to avoid hitting the downed man but crashed his Harley-Davidson into the pickup truck.
The La Mirada man died while emergency personnel were transporting him to Santa Ysabel from where he was to be airlifted to a hospital.
The Mission Viejo man was taken to Palomar Medical Center with severe injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 38-year-old San Diego man, and a passenger in the vehicle were not injured.
Investigators said both motorcyclists were wearing helmets. It was unclear if drugs or alcohol was a factor in the crash.
