According to the California Highway Patrol, Mata-Garcia was driving a Nissan Kick eastbound on Highway 166 when he tried to overtake a 2008 Nissan Frontier and collided with an oncoming Dodge Journey
Santa Maria, CA.- The man who was killed in a multi-vehicle collision near Santa Maria on Saturday night has been identified as Jesus Antonio Mata-Garcia, 21, of Santa Maria, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office Coroner's Bureau.
The deadly accident took place on Highway 166, west of Hanson Way at about 11:10 p.m. September 7.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Mata-Garcia was driving a Nissan Kick eastbound on Highway 166 when he tried to overtake a 2008 Nissan Frontier and collided with an oncoming Dodge Journey.
The Dodge was pushed into the Nissan Frontier by the impact of the crash.
Mata-Garcia died at the scene of the crash.
A passenger in the Dodge Journey, Eribertha Martinez-Amado, and the driver of the Nissan Frontier, Wendi Pacheco-Lopez, 32, of Santa Maria, sustained minor injuries.
Martinez-Amado's 1-year-old child was rushed to Marian Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries.
The driver of the Dodge Journey reportedly left the scene after the collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
