Jessica Wright Killed, Elizabeth Stewart Injured in Spokane Car Accident on I-90 near Medical Lake Exit

Spokane, Washington (September 26, 2023) – Elizabeth Stewart, 23, of Redding, California, was killed and her passenger, Jessica Wright, 32, was injured in a suspected DUI crash on Sunday night in Spokane.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the accident happened around 9 p.m. on Interstate 90 near Medical Lake exit.

Philip Garcia, 23, of Spokane, was driving a car on I-90 when he attempted to pass a semi-truck but failed to see a 2015 Kia in the next lane.

He then crashed into the rear of the Kia driven by Stewart, causing it to roll over.

Stewart was taken to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center with unspecified injuries.

Wright was riding in the Kia and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a local news source.

WSP said two kids, ages 2 and 4 years, were inside the Kia and were not injured.

Garcia was found to have been driving under the influence of alcohol and was arrested.

More details about the crash were not provided.

The accident remains under investigation.
