Enrique Lopez Suffers Minor Injuries in Firebaugh Truck Accident on Highway 33
Firebaugh, California (August 17, 2021) – The California Highway Patrol has identified the Merced man who was hurt in a two-vehicle collision in Firebaugh early Monday morning as 50-year-old Enrique Figueroa Lopez.
The fatal head-on crash took place on Highway 33 north of Douglas Avenue at approximately 3:20 a.m.
A 2012 Hyundai Veloster heading south in the highway's northbound lane crashed head-on into a 2013 Peterbilt truck that was hauling trailers of tomatoes north on Highway 33.
Due to the impact, both automobiles caught fire, and the Hyundai driver, an 18-year-old man, was trapped inside the burning car.

Figueroa Lopez, who was driving the truck, sustained minor injuries, including pain to his back and neck following the accident.
Sadly, the wrong-way operator was declared dead at the scene.
The crash resulted in the closure of the northbound lanes of Highway 33 for an unknown time.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
