According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, rescue personnel were sent to the 2333 block of North Catalina Street after they received reports of a worker trapped in a trench at about 10:50 a.m.
Los Angeles, CA. – A construction worker was hospitalized in serious condition, and two firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion after a work accident that happened Thursday morning in Los Angeles' Los Feliz area.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, rescue personnel were sent to the 2333 block of North Catalina Street after they received reports of a worker trapped in a trench at about 10:50 a.m.
The firefighters arrived at the residential construction site to find an adult male worker trapped by soil up to a point at or above his waist in an 8-foot-deep trench adjacent to a load-bearing wall.
The firefighters stabilized the trench walls to ensure safety during the rescue operation, which extended for nearly six hours.
The activity was completed around 4:54 p.m., and the man was transported by LAFD paramedics to a regional trauma center in serious condition.
Two LAFD rescuers were treated at the scene for heat exhaustion, with one of them later being taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.
No other injuries were reported.
Authorities are investigating the incident.
