Merced County, CA. – An 8-month-old baby died, and two adults were seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident that happened Tuesday evening in Merced County.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the wreck took place at about 8:30 p.m. on Vincent Road, north of Harding Road.
Based on an initial investigation, authorities said a 20-year-old Delhi man was driving a gray Honda Civic southbound on Vincent Road and a 43-year-old Turlock woman was driving a white Toyota Highlander northbound on the same road.
For an unknown reason, the Honda traveled onto the shoulder and then veered in an easterly direction, ending up in the northbound lane, where it collided with the front of the Toyota.
The Honda continued out of control and crashed into a wrought iron fence. The Toyota stopped blocking both lanes of Vincent Road.
An 8-month-old girl in the Honda was rushed to the hospital, where she died from her injuries.
The driver of the Honda and the right-front passenger suffered major injuries. They were taken to hospitals in Modesto.
The driver of the Toyota was also taken to a hospital in Modesto in unknown condition.
CHP officers are investigating the collision.
