Sun Valley, CA.- Alan Hartley, 59, was killed in a big rig collision in Sun Valley on Sunday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash took place on Interstate 5, near the Sunland Boulevard offramp.
Hartley had been driving an SUV in the northbound lanes of the freeway when he stopped and stepped out.
A big rig traveling through the area struck Hartley as he was running in the northbound lanes.
Hartley died in the accident.
All northbound lanes of the freeway were shut down as authorities investigated the incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
