Yuma, AZ – A 21-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash early Saturday morning after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene, according to the Yuma County Sheriff's Office.
The Yuma Police Department identified the victim as Mariella Acosta.
The deadly incident occurred around 4:45 a.m. on December 6, 2025, at the intersection of South Avenue B and West County 14th Street near Yuma International Airport.
Authorities confirmed that the crash involved one unidentified vehicle and a pedestrian, later identified as Acosta. No additional vehicles were reported at the scene.
Upon arrival, deputies located Acosta unresponsive. Despite efforts by first responders, she was pronounced deceased at the scene. The involved driver did not remain in the area and has not yet been identified.
The Yuma County Sheriff's Office has launched an active investigation and is urging the public to come forward with any information. Based on evidence collected, investigators believe the suspect vehicle may be a sedan or coupe with damage to the front passenger-side headlamp.
The official cause of the crash remains under investigation.
