Two Injured in Del Mar Plane Crash on Interstate 5

Del Mar, California (August 24, 2021) – Two people were injured when a plane landed on Interstate 5 in Del Mar and clipped several vehicles on Tuesday afternoon, according to the authorities.

The incident happened just after noon near the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

CHP said the pilot of the single-engine Piper PA-32 had left the Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport in Kearny Mesa and brought it down on the freeway after it became disabled.

The plane struck several vehicles and came to a rest against a center divider wall.

2 Hurt in Del Mar Plane Crash on I-5 

The two occupants of the plane were not injured.

Two people in the vehicles that were hit by the plane were hospitalized with minor injuries.

The crash caused a closure of all southbound lanes and part of the northbound side of Interstate 5 as crews worked to clear the scene.

The crash is under investigation.
