6 Injured in Crash on Highway 99 in Modesto

Modesto, California (July 16, 2022) – Six people, including three children, were injured in a multivehicle accident on Saturday morning in Modesto, authorities said.

The accident occurred at about 5:00 a.m. on Highway 99 at the Carpenter Road exit.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a southbound big rig operated by a 47-year-old Modesto man rear-ended a box truck driven by a Sacramento man at the Carpenter Road exit.

As a result of the crash, the box truck reportedly went in a southeast direction before overturning and blocking the southbound lanes.

A few seconds later, a Buick Enclave, driven by a man driving, crashed into the overturned box truck.

The driver of the Buick and his wife, who was in the front passenger seat, both 42 from Stockton, suffered moderate injuries. Their children, ages 5, 8, and 16, sustained minor to moderate injuries.

Traffic on the roadway was stopped for an unknown period due to the accident.

The crash remains under investigation.
