1 Dies, 2 Injured in Traffic Collision Involving Semi-Truck on 5 Freeway at Junipero Serra Road

San Juan Capistrano, California (May 2, 2023) – One person died, and two others were hospitalized after a Tuesday morning traffic collision involving a semi-truck that happened on 5 Freeway in San Juan Capistrano, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The collision was reported at around 5:16 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the freeway at Junipero Serra Road.

A black Jeep Cherokee collided with a stake bed truck under unclear circumstances. The vehicles were blocking traffic lanes after the accident.

CHP said a female occupant of the Jeep died in the crash. The deceased was stuck under the stake bed truck and required extrication.

Two people were transported to the hospital by Care Ambulance 7999 with unspecified injuries.

CHP officers, firefighters, a coroner representative, and Caltrans personnel were at the scene.
