One Dies in San Marcos Accident on South Rancho Santa Fe Road

San Marcos, California (February 24, 2023) – The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department investigating a deadly crash that occurred in San Marcos on Thursday morning.

According to the authorities, the wreck happened at around 7 a.m. February 23, on South Rancho Santa Fe Road, near La Colusa Drive.

A 2016 Jeep Cherokee was traveling north on South Rancho Santa Fe Road when the driver lost control, collided with the raised median, and swerved into the southbound side.

The Jeep then crashed with an oncoming 2008 Lincoln MKZ, rolled over and caught fire.

The drivers were extricated from both vehicles and were taken to a hospital, where the Lincoln’s driver was pronounced dead.

The other driver had minor injuries. 

An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
