One Killed in Chico Collision on Highway 99

Chico, California (March 8, 2023) – One person was killed in a crash that happened on Tuesday afternoon in Butte County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The wreck occurred shortly before 3:30 a.m. March 7, on Highway 99 near Cana Highway.

Three cars and a big rig were involved in the crash. 

According to CHP,  a woman driving a silver car was traveling northbound on Highway 99 when she crossed the centerline. The big rig swerved to avoid the car and was struck by a Toyota.

The Toyota then spun out multiple times and collided with a red vehicle, causing it to roll over.

The Toyota driver was rushed to Enloe with major injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. 

The driver of the red vehicle was also taken to a hospital and was conscious and responsive.

At least two people were extricated from their vehicles.

Both the northbound and the southbound lanes of Highway 99 were blocked as the scene was being cleared.

Authorities are investigating the wreck.
